What is ONE Society, and what’s its purpose?

ONE Society is a global initiative designed to break free from the model responsible for today’s social fractures and environmental harm. Our purpose is to help rebuild a society of mutual prosperity — one worth belonging to — and nurture the foundations of liberal democracy.

Why is ONE Society needed?

The world is experiencing a systemic crisis: widening economic gaps, an identity and belonging crisis, increasing political polarization, and an outdated education system. ONE Society provides an integrated solution by offering new approaches to leadership, economics, and social structures.

Is ONE Society a non-profit, a political movement, or a business?

ONE Society is an international foundation based in Switzerland; it is non-political and non-profit. It operates under a hybrid funding model, combining philanthropy with revenue-generating activities such as education, consulting, and strategic partnerships.

What is the Economics of Mutuality?

The Economics of Mutuality is a groundbreaking economic model. Co-developed by Oxford University and a global corporation over two decades, it helps companies and society move beyond profit-maximization for the few to creating enhanced value for all: businesses, people, communities, and the planet. Unlike traditional economic models, it fuses value creation and distribution from the start—driving mutual, lasting prosperity.

How is ONE Society different from capitalism or socialism?

Unlike capitalism, which prioritizes maximizing profits for shareholders, and socialism, which relies on government intervention to redistribute wealth, ONE Society proposes an economy based on mutuality. Here, the mutuality of benefit is embedded from the outset into the value creation model, increasing value creation for all.

How does ONE Society create real impact?

We operate through a set of interconnected pillars: • Educate – Equip the next generation of leaders with purpose-driven, mutuality-based thinking. • Implement – Scale the Economics of Mutuality across businesses, cities, and organizations. • Influence Policy – Shape public policy through insights grounded in practice and research. • Leadership Coalition Building – Bring together leaders from different fields to collaborate and drive real change.

Are there real-world examples of the Economics of Mutuality in action?

Yes — the model was originally developed within the multinational corporation Mars Inc. and has been tested in over 50 business cases worldwide, across diverse companies, sectors and regions. Around 15 of these cases are featured in the Oxford University Press book Putting Purpose into Practice (2021), available online for free and translated into Chinese in 2022. These cases demonstrate how integrating social and environmental impact into the core of value creation generates measurable and additional value.

How is ONE Society different from other social or economic initiatives?

Unlike many initiatives that focus solely on either economic reform or social impact, ONE Society bridges both by fundamentally rethinking how value is created and distributed. Our approach is: • Systemic – Addressing the root causes of inequality and environmental degradation • Research-driven – Grounded in economic and social sciences. • Action-oriented – Applied through education, business, public sectors and governance.

Who is behind ONE Society?

ONE Society was co-founded by Irina Nevzlin and Bruno Roche, two thought leaders with deep expertise in identity, economics, and leadership. The initiative is supported by a global network of business executives, policymakers, educators, and social entrepreneurs committed to building a fairer and more sustainable future. Our key partners include top universities, corporations, and research institutions worldwide.

What’s next for ONE Society?

ONE Society is expanding its global partnerships with universities, businesses, and policymakers to scale the Economics of Mutuality model. Upcoming initiatives include: • Educational programs at leading business schools. • Pilot projects with companies and cities adopting mutuality-based economic models. • Thought leadership forums to engage global decision-makers. As we grow, we welcome collaborations, insights, and engagement from those who share our vision.
